Character Information:
Name: Emery Piedersen
Age: 20
Gender: male
Species: human
Canon/OC/Canon AU/Canon OC/CR AU: OC
Personality: Emery can be cheerful, or seem easy-going, but he's really secretly judging you.
In some situations, he can be like a cat in a room full of rocking chairs, skittish and just odd, but mostly he comes off as shy or extremely formal. And if you don't take into account that he doesn't ever seem to get himself or others hurt by it, he seems really clumsy. Books fall from shelves near him, vases topple over, and he trips or nearly falls a lot. His deceptive cheerfulness mostly comes from how he handles that. Also, he is shy enough to be hilariously bad at speaking to groups of people. One on one, he's better off, able to be charming and a very good liar if necessary. He's pretty oblivious to romance. He can't sneak worth a damn, hates hats, and is generally secretive.
White Wolf Demeanor/Nature: Caregiver/Fanatic - He will look after others, doing kind things and seeming to care for them, but his true calling is to actively work against tyranny with a brutally strict belief in how the universe is ordered. (In the later stages of the Mage campaign when he was more powerful, it was a running joke that NPCs didn't want him to feel sorry for them, because his mercy would most likely be killing them.) He believes in reincarnation and doesn't place that high a value on an individual life if one wasn't using it right or experiencing a life worth living.
Appearance: He's short for a young man his age and unlikely to grow taller. He has wavy dark hair and gray eyes. He dresses formally and fastidiously, often with a jacket or coat when others his age would wear much less. There is something about him that makes many people's skin crawl, but others can't remember what he looks like as soon as he's out of their sight.
History: He's from a country which is like a love-child of France and Germany in a continent much like Europe during the Industrial Revolution. His father owns a hat factory, and his mother died in childbirth. He's been haunted by vengeful ghosts all his life, and they regularly trip him, throw things at him, try to push him off of things, etc. As a child, he wasn't believed by anyone when he said the vase or the book or whatever just jumped off the shelf at him, so he got very good at lying that, of course, he did it himself and is just very clumsy.
When he was old enough he begged his father to send him to university in his world's version of the Americas. He kept changing majors so he won't have to give up his student visa and go back home. He studied magic on the side with a private teacher, and pursued his real motive of working with a secret political organization intending to overthrow the government where he was living. Fairly early on, he had a bounty on his head as a wanted terrorist.
Now he's at this school instead, and puzzled, but at least relieved to be allowed to study magic and not arrested. The ghosts may or may not have followed him.
Abilities: Basically, Emery's abilities are from White Wolf's Mage: the Ascension. He was a natural Medium, with a primary sphere of Spirit, followed by Mind with a bit of Forces. He did not have a tradition, but an overall paradigm of considering his abilities psychic. His starting levels were Spirit 1, Mind 2, and Forces 2. Yes, Spirit is his primary sphere, but he depended on being a Medium in his early training without putting as much effort into it. He did not use an obvious focus, but likely in this school, he may use a wand for whatever they teach him to use it for, but avoid using it as often as he can. He doesn't believe in depending on a tool that can be taken away from him by his enemies.
More detail on what those powers mean...
He's a natural Medium, and has been so from birth. All this means in practice is that he can see and hear spirits and ghosts without any real effort. He wants to train magically to communicate with the ghosts/spirits, send them on or back to where they came from, visit the spirit realms, and such. So far, he can talk back to them and be understood most of time. He's also less inclined to find spirits or ghosts frightening unless they're trying to hurt him.
He can already eavesdrop on people's surface thoughts, and wishes to be able to speak mind to mind, search through and alter memories, and maybe control the actions of other people through their minds. He also wishes to be able to move objects with magic or his mind, mostly with an eye toward self-defense. So far all he can do is slightly affect the course or other behavior of something already in motion.
Non-magically, he's actually a helluva lot more graceful than he seems or he'd get hurt far more often from seeming to trip over his own feet, and he's an excellent liar.
Inventory: a notebook with a pencil and a small knife
House/Allegiance/Job: student with likely a penchant for whatever House equivalent there is for Slytherin, i.e., he's ambitious and not as moralistic as some might be
Special Notes: If the ghosts follow him to this place, I may need to drop the mods a note about what their deal is. If they don't, he'll gradually seem less jumpy in places where there are things on shelves or otherwise higher than his head and his apparent clumsiness will start tapering off as he gets used to not having things flung at his head or tripping/pushing him constantly. (This may be interesting if a certain DADA teacher flings wrenches regularly, but the teacher won't likely hit Emery with one often unless he cheats.)
And I'm okay with people asking questions, especially with White Wolf what? since it's the old Mage game, not the current one. And the world is obviously original not the World of Darkness.
